A shining pearl
The mansion lies in a secluded street of the ceramic and neo-classical art city. Visiting it is an unforgettable experience.
Those who cross the threshold of this historical mansion is amazed, because of the fascinating fusion of architecture and painting, in an intact consistency of style and exceptional quality of the perfectly preserved decoration.
Crossing the threshold is entering in a neoclassical world that developed by the French Revolution to the Napoleonic Reign of Italy, when the Greek-Roman world was felt to be a moral and aesthetical life model.
On this basis the Black Vestibule of the bathroom and the Toilet, delightfully decorated in Pompeian style, are connected with the Library, to emphasize the perfect Classic and Enlightenment consistency between body care and care of the mind. On the main floor, we find the beautiful row of rooms: the bright octagonal Hall, a true Masonic temple, the
Ballroom or Apollo Gallery, the Peace and War Room, the Studio dedicated to Numa Pompilius, the Nuptial Room with Ulysses and Penelope Stories and the charming Cabinet of Love. Francesco Milzetti, freemason, rich landowner and colonel of the Napoleonic guard, commissioned the work to architects Giuseppe Pistocchi (1744 - 1814), Giovanni Antonio Antolini (1753 - 1841) and Felice Giani (1758 - 1823), painter,
great interpreter of this historical artistic period. Giani, together with a close-knit group of painters and sculptors, between 1802 and 1805 accomplished the palace decoration, from the beautiful tempera painting to the neoclassical style stuccos, rich of Romantic ferment. Other point of interest are the ancient furnishings and a little gallery of 19th century sculptures.
